Andy Muth, M Ed.

Andy is a Resident in Counseling at Old Towne. He completed his master’s degree in Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2019 and is working towards his licensure as a professional counselor. Andy utilizes mindfulness-based behavior therapies to help his clients work through difficult issues and barriers in their lives. Some areas that Andy specializes in are work-related problems, alcohol and substance use disorders, autism spectrum disorder, and coping with disability. Andy has experience working with clients to develop coping strategies for anxiety, depression, grief, relationship issues, stress management, and cooccurring mental health diagnoses.

Prior to working at Old Towne Counseling, Andy has worked with populations in inpatient substance use treatment, community-based vocational counseling (supported employment) and residential support for people with severe intellectual disability. He also worked in a variety of different fields (from environmental conservation, to carpentry, to building inspector). He has a passion for helping people find their path in life, as he relates to this journey on a personal level. Through some trial and error, and experience working in several different fields Andy has developed perspective on what is most important to him: helping people to build peace and happiness in their lives.

Andy stays grounded by applying mindfulness practice in his daily life. With his free time he enjoys being in nature, whether it be the mountains, the river or the ocean.
